Sony as no. 1 in LCD market

Sony India plans to widen the gap with its nearest competitor in the LCD market and become the No. 1 with an innovative line-up and continued focus on brand enhancement. Launching its range of 14 new BRAVIA models, Sony announced its plans to capture 30% of the LCD market highlighting the company focus on the category. With the world’s two firsts (world’s slimmest and world’s only Motionflow 200HZ) to its credit - BRAVIA is a brand with its eyes firmly on the future, with products that are ready to take advantage of emerging trends.

Key facts include:
• LCD Television market size to increase by 50% from 1000 k units to 1500 k units.
• For Sony, BRAVIA LCD TV share is estimated to increase to 30% in the FY09, up from the 28% in FY08.
• Sony is expected to sell 450k TV units, an increase from 280k units sold in FY08.
• A continued focus to strengthen brand image this year with an investment of Rs. 600 mil.
